Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh sí…
Here in Scoil Chualann our primary aim is the holistic development of the child (i.e. incorporating the child’s academic, physical, moral, spiritual, aesthetic, cultural, social and personal development) and to provide a high standard of education by following a broad curriculum in a Christian, all-Irish, positive, enjoyable atmosphere.
All children develop their GAA football, hurling/camogie skills every year through in school training from GPOs and regular after school practice on the pitch near us.
In addition to GAA the children partake in Swimming Classes, Irish Dancing, Soccer and Athletics.
Our school is delighted to be learning German as part of the Modern Languages in Primary Schools Initiative (MLPSI). Múinteoir Yasmin has been teaching 5th and 6th class German as part of this initiative. We have chosen to be part of this exciting project because of the many learning opportunities and benefits it can bring to the children, teachers and wider school community.
There are many reasons why the learning of another modern language at primary school is beneficial for children. Research has shown that children who are introduced to other languages from an early age can become more proficient language learners and that learning another language can have positive effects on the learning of other curriculum subjects. Evaluations of the MLPSI have also noted the positive effects it has had on pupils not only linguistically and academically, but also socially in terms of their self-esteem, confidence and in assisting their preparation for second level.
The Arts Education curriculum consists of three subjects: Music, Drama and Visual arts. The curriculum enables children to explore and express ideas, feelings and experiences through music, drama and the visual arts.
Technology / STEM
Scoil Chualann is a digital school. The school has excellent IT facilities and support. The students in the senior classes are learning to code on individual laptops provided to them by the school. We strongly believe that the use of modern technology greatly enhances the learning experience of our students and helps prepare them for life in the twenty-first century.
We are very interested in music in Scoil Chualann. Music involves learning in the major domains of knowledge, skills, attitudes and feelings and the
senses. It is our shared vision that music in our school will enable the pupils to develop these domains through this learning. We wish to give all children in the school a chance to enjoy music and singing which will be integrated with drama and dance.
Our learning support team work together with our mainstream class teachers to promote a supportive and inclusive learning environment in our school. Our main aim is to ensure that each child reaches his or her potential. We place a strong emphasis on early intervention in the areas of literacy and numeracy. The learning support team work with individuals and small groups in ‘in-class’ and ‘out-of-class’ settings throughout all class levels, providing learning opportunities for each child.
